Medieval Fort

Originally built by the Byzantines to protect the harbour, the fort was rebuilt by the Lusignans in the 15th century. The Venetians were unable to defend it against the Ottamans, who then rebuilt it when they took over the island in the 16th century. It was eventually used as a prison, and then as a salt storage facility by the British when Cyprus became a colony.
