The museum reflects the glory of Byzantium and how this found localexpression in exuisitely painted religious icons,  some of which date back to the 7th century.  It also has an impressive collection of wall paintings, wood carvings, manuscripts and books.

 

District Archaelogical Museum – Grivas Digheris Avenue

This small museum features fascinating displays of artefacts – statues,  tombstones, inscriptions, terracotta figurines – unearthed from sites in the paphos district dating back to the neolithic era.  The Byzantine and Frankish periods are now also represented in a additional room.

This charming little museum takes us through the everyday objects ordinary people used to surround themselves with in days gone by.  A bedroom, kitchen and workroom display fine examples of folk art, carved chests, baskets and pottery.

 

Geroskipou Folk Art Museum - Geroskipou Village, just east of Pafos along the airport road.

The entire Geroskipou area was once the playground of Aphrodite and the name of the village originaly originates from ‘Ieros Kipos’ or ‘Sacred Garden’.  While there is not much evidence of a holy garden anymore, you may viewan impressive collection of folk art and crafts from the 19th century in the area’s district museum that occupies the House of Hadjismith, a traditional 19th century home of great architectural and historical importance.  Built of stone with two paved courtyards and covered terrace, it was one of the first vernacular buildings to be declared and ancient monument.
