Lara Beach
The western sandy beaches of the Akamas peninsula are ideal for solitary swimming but an ecological conscience is essential when visiting these parts.
How to get there: On the way from Kato Paphos to Ayios Georgios, just before the village, there is a fork to the right with a sign for Akamas. Take the road until you first reach the mouth of Avakas River at Toxeftra beach, and finaly Lara bay. The car journey takes about 20 minutes from the fork.
The Beach: Sandy and completely deserted, with natural vegetation sometimes streching down as far as the sea.
Preparartion: Only food and drink are allowed, as the beach is kept clean. Anything else – umbrella’s, beach beds, tents, cars and any fishing are forbidden by law. For a meal, turn back to the Aspros River beach where there is a resturant.
Tip: Two species of turtle, the green turtle and the careta careta, nest and hatch in this area, and therefore overnight stay is forbidden on the beach (starting one hour before sunset).
